Matt Rogers has created this awesome typographic animation using Helvetica and the words of Stephen Fry.
Last weekend saw the grand opening of Passoni Nature furniture showroom, which we designed in collaboration with Peter Oliver Davies and iarchitects.
The Passoni family has been in the business of making top-quality wooden furniture for 60 years and they are a real institution in the furniture industry. A couple of years ago they converted to a completely environmentally sustainable production, with everything from materials to manufacturing techniques and finishes totally eco-frindly. Soon they became the first Italian furniture company to be completely certified for sustainability. This is their first flagship showroom and we were delighted to be asked to give the place a “make over. We designed some lovely window graphics featuring trees and big typography, interior graphics, wall graphics and display material including internally lit cubes for the chairs and a special bookshelf for marble samples.

Another great job by the guys at Moglia printer in Torino. We just got these back and we’re very pleased.
The brochure is a 9 panel concertina fold printed on 350 grams recycled paper. The real treat, though, are the 4 mm thick walnut boards attached to the covers. We had the wood laser-carved with our design and then treated with a natural orange-based, solvent free oil. The studio smelled of orange for hours. › Continue reading…
Today is the opening of our big event for Design Week: Vivaio.
Come and see us all week in Via Cerano 12.

These are our beautiful wooden invitations, fresh from the printers.
Well done to Marco Moglia and his team for delivering exactly what we wanted.
The invites are screen-printed in 3 colours on off-cuts of birch veneer, with lots of lovely veins and cracks. Very nice to touch and surprisingly sturdy considering the thickness.
By the way: the party is Wednesday 14 April at our studio in Via Cerano 12, Milano.

Friday night we launched the new exhibition space Cerano Dodici that we manage with IArchitects and Peter Oliver Davies.
The first event, on until mid March, is a photographic exhibition by Barcelona based art director Cinzia Pallaoro, and the launch party was a fantastic evening.
Custard Studio designed the identity and is creating a website with Oliver Davies.

Massimo was invited to give a lecture to the 2nd and 3rd year students of the B.A.(Hons) Graphic Media at the University For The Creative Arts in Maidstone.
“It was very strange and exciting to go back to my old University as a lecturer and not as a student.”
The talk concentrated both on design aspects and career advice, as well as insight into setting up a design studio. An in-depth presentation of Freestyle Magazine both from the point of view of the design and layout, and of production issues, was followed by interesting debate with the students.
Hope to do it again next year.

The last 3 weeks have been spent working literally around the clock designing issue 2 of Freestyle Magazine. The issue is coming together very well, and we are very pleased with the result so far.
We have made a few changes in the typography and a few adjustments to the house style:
The magazine is now entirely set in Avant Garde. This typeface comes in a vast variety of weights and presents letterforms built around a perfect circle, so we believe it complements the round format of the magazine.
We have finally moved into our long awaited new studio in Milan’s Zona Tortona and it is proving a lovely place to work from.
Come and visit us and you might be lucky enough to find freshly baked brownies.
